Maplewood is an unincorporated community in northern Salem Township, Shelby County, Ohio, United States. Although it is unincorporated, it has a post office, with the ZIP code of 45340.[1] It lies along State Route 65.
Two farm equipment businesses were once located inside the community on Maplewood Road: Kempfer Farm Store, which moved to Jackson Center in the early 1960s, and Maplewood Implement Company, which later moved in 1978 to State Route 47 near Port Jefferson.
Maplewood is frequently mentioned in the station ID of WPTD Channel 16, Dayton's public television station as the site of its translator W63AH whose transmitting tower is located to the northwest on State Route 119's crossroad intersection with Wones Road which was rebroadcast on Channel 63 with 140 watts. Since television stations and translators have since ceased analog broadcasting in favor of digital, WPTD's Maplewood translator as such is now W32DS-D
Maplewood Elementary School was closed in the 1950s after its merger with Sidney City Schools. The building which housed the school was torn down in 1979.
The Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad (now Rail America-owned Indiana and Ohio Railway) runs through Maplewood.
